Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths and L’Oréal Travel Retail boss Vincent Boinay join star-studded Trinity Forum line-up

News

SINGAPORE. Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths and L’Oréal Travel Retail President Vincent Boinay are the latest industry leaders to join an increasingly powerful speaking line-up for The Trinity Forum 2022 to be held in Singapore on 1-2 November.

Griffiths is one of the most-respected executives in the airport world, having driven Dubai International Airport’s (DXB) remarkable transformation and success story of the past 15 years. In 2014 DXB became the world’s busiest gateway by international passenger numbers, a position it has held onto ever since. Before joining Dubai Airports, he was Managing Director of Gatwick Airport for three and a half years.

Boinay, who is also a member of the L’Oréal Executive Committee, has enjoyed a stellar 30-year career with the French beauty powerhouse, many of them within the travel retail channel which he has headed with great distinction since 2015.

The Trinity Forum is co-organised by The Moodie Davitt Report, ACI World and ACI Asia Pacific and is hosted this year by Changi Airport Group. We will be naming further speakers this week.

Paul Griffiths (left) and Vincent Boinay are two of the aviation and travel retail sectors’ most progressive thinkers

The Gala Dinner will be held at the magnificent Jewel Changi Airport (Jewel) on 2 November, sponsored by Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail and hosted by Changi Airport Group.

The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie said: “We are honoured to welcome Paul and Vincent to The Trinity Forum as it returns after a three-year absence due to the pandemic. They are two of the most consumer-centric, intelligent and far-sighted executives in our industry and will bring tremendous value to what is shaping as a seminal edition of the event as the aviation, tourism and travel retail sectors continue to rebound.”

Registration is open here: https://trinityforum.events. Due to space limitations at Jewel, places at the Gala Dinner are strictly limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

China Duty Free Group signs as Trinity Forum Platinum Partner

News

SINGAPORE. China Duty Free Group (CDFG), the world’s leading travel retailer by sales, has become a Platinum Partner of The Trinity Forum 2022 to be held in Singapore on 1-2 November.

As reported, CDFG President Charles Chen will be delivering a keynote session on day one of the event.

The Trinity Forum is co-organised by The Moodie Davitt Report, ACI World and ACI Asia Pacific and is hosted this year by Changi Airport Group.

The Gala Dinner will be held at the magnificent Jewel Changi Airport (Jewel) on 2 November, sponsored by Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail and hosted by Changi Airport Group.

China Duty Free Group has been the number-one ranked travel retailer since 2020, according to the industry benchmark Top Travel Retailers published by The Moodie Davitt Report. It is part of China Tourism Group Duty Free Corp which last month successfully listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong in addition to its main Shanghai Stock Exchange listing.

Its H listing has got off to a strong start, currently trading at HK$173, a +9.49% increase since trading began. The group plans to use the funds raised to consolidate its leadership at home and abroad (click here for background).

The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie said: “We are thrilled by China Duty Free Group’s support of The Trinity Forum, which is a tremendous affirmation of the role and value of the event. As I have said many times, CDFG has been the lighthouse of the travel retail channel throughout the pandemic, especially in the darkest days of 2020.

“Its business in Hainan continues to go from strength to strength while the new Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex promises to transcend anything that has gone before in the travel retail world. CTG Duty-Free’s highly successful listing in Hong Kong is a powerful statement of the group’s intentions to grow at home and abroad, both digitally and in-store.

Charles Chen has always provided compelling insights during his attendance at previous Trinity Forums. He is shown above and below in conversation with The Moodie Davitt Report Chairman Martin Moodie during earlier events.

“I’m also delighted to welcome Charles Chen as a keynote speaker. Charles has always delivered tremendous value at previous Trinity Forums and as the event makes a welcome return after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, his views will be of huge interest to the audience in Singapore.”

Registration is open here: https://trinityforum.events. Due to space limitations at Jewel, places at the Gala Dinner are strictly limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Trinity Challenge 2022: Call for entries from travel retail innovators

News

SINGAPORE/INTERNATIONAL. There are just 18 days until the deadline for entries to The Trinity Challenge 2022. The initiative, brought to you by Mondelez International World Travel Retail (WTR) in association with The Moodie Davitt Report, aims to inspire creativity and innovation in travel retail.

As reported, Mondelez  WTR is the official Innovation Partner for the upcoming Trinity Forum, set for 1-2 November in Singapore. Registration is now open at https://trinityforum.events.

The context

Travellers are placing sustainability and innovation higher in their priorities than ever before. They expect travel retail stakeholders’ products, policies and practices to reflect a genuine and tangible commitment to sustainability.

Equally, in an age where digitalisation has been accelerated by the pandemic, consumers increasingly demand innovation and technology across the online to offline offer and throughout the travel journey.

Guided by the long-time spirit of the Trinity, uniting under a common goal to champion sustainable and innovative practices in travel retail is what Mondelez World Travel Retail calls ‘Travel Retail Made Right’.

The Challenge

The Moodie Davitt Report and Mondelez World Travel Retail invite proposals for ideas, initiatives and solutions to help brands, retailers, airports, airlines and/or other travel ecosystem stakeholders showcase and drive the industry’s sustainability and innovation credentials to travellers.

The terms of reference are deliberately non-prescriptive in order to encourage fresh, alternative and ground-breaking ideas.

The proposal cannot be a campaign, product, service or solution already launched in the travel retail channel before 1 January 2022.

Submission Requirements & Deadline

A simple pdf (4 pages maximum) entry should be emailed to Jeannie Wong at Jeannie@MoodieDavittReport.com headed ‘The Trinity Challenge 2022’, together with any supplementary visual material by end of day on Friday 23 September. It should outline the concept and its sustainability and/or innovation credentials.

Additional supporting material may be provided via WeTransfer or any other sharing folder.

The Prize

A panel of expert judges will select three short-listed proposals that will have the opportunity to present live (or by video) at the Trinity Forum in Singapore on November 1-2.

All proposals will be featured in the Moodie Davitt Report Trinity Forum issue.

The judges will vote on what they feel is the most impactful proposal. The winner will receive:

    • €5,000 donated to a sustainability cause of the winner’s choosing, courtesy of Mondelez World Travel Retail.
    • A major editorial feature dedicated to the project by Moodie Davitt Report and complimentary advertising in the post-Trinity eZine
    • A certificate declaring ‘Trinity Challenge Winner 2022’

News

SINGAPORE. The speakers’ line-up at The Trinity Forum 2022 – making a welcome return after a three-year absence due to the pandemic – continues to strengthen with a host of prominent travel retail executives joining the programme. And in a big boost to the event, the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) is holding its acclaimed annual APTRA Exchange at The Trinity Forum.

The Trinity Forum is co-organised by The Moodie Davitt Report, ACI World and ACI Asia Pacific and hosted by Changi Airport Group, which is providing a dazzling Gala Dinner at Jewel Changi Airport on 2 November.

Newly named presenters include IPP Travel Retail Chief Executive Officer and IPP Group Vice President Project Development Phillip Nguyen, who is driving the impressive reemergence and transformation of Vietnam’s travel retail sector (look out for our exclusive series of reports coming soon).

Transformation is also at the heart of what Qatar Duty Free is delivering at Hamad International Airport and company Vice President  Thabet Musleh will be presenting an exclusive overview of the Doha gateway’s extraordinary new expansion which is set to open in time for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which begins on 20 November.

Dubai Duty Free Chief Operating Officer Ramesh Cidambi, one of travel retail’s most articulate, engaging and insightful speakers, is another star turn. The Middle East travel retailer has bounced back tremendously this year after a tumultous 2020 and 2021 and is set to return to pre-pandemic levels in the relative near-term.

We will reveal more names in coming days.

APTRA President Sunil Tuli, who is also King Power Group (Hong Kong) Group Chief Executive Officer, said, “APTRA is delighted to be participating in November’s Trinity Forum, hosted in our home city of Singapore. The whole industry needs to share information, perspectives and strategies to help us all drive the pace of recovery.

“A key part of our contribution will be the APTRA Exchange session, ‘Navigating the headwinds’, focusing on the multitude of challenging dynamics the industry is grappling with as we get back to business.

“Right across our industry we’re faced with challenges in supply chain issues, overpriced logistics, a shortage of manpower, regional conflicts and escalating fuel costs that are provoking inflation, increasingly impacting on consumers’ willingness and financial ability to travel.

“Ironically, as COVID finally recedes, we now face a perfect storm – but our industry has a strong history of resilience and recovery. We need to respond and rise again with new thinking and new levels of co-operation to get through this together.

“APTRA’s priority mission for The Trinity Forum is to galvanise support amongst the industry and make sure this session delivers valuable commercial outcomes to help us understand and overcome the key challenges we all face.”

Groupe ADP Chief Retail Officer Aude Ferrand will bring her insight to this year’s Trinity Forum

The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie said: “The APTRA Exchange has been a standout element of recent Trinity Forums and we’re delighted that the association is bringing its weight, support and focus on the issues that matter to our event.”

Another presentation sure to be of interest is that from China Duty Free Group (CDFG) President Charles Chen.

As reported, CDFG parent company China Tourism Group Duty Free Corp has just kicked off its secondary listing programme on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, and is set to raise over US$2.17 billion, a war chest that is sure to spell some interesting developments in the months ahead.

Charles Chen has always provided compelling insights during his attendance at previous Trinity Forums. He is shown above in conversation with The Moodie Davitt Report Chairman Martin Moodie at The Trinity Forum in Doha in 2019.
